General Cleaning
The post-construction clean that turns a finished site into a handover-ready space.
General Cleaning is the post-construction clean that takes a site from "built" to "presentable". It removes the dust, debris, stickers and residue of construction so the space can be handed over — and so the most delicate finishes can go in.
What it covers
- Removal of construction debris and protection materials.
- Detailed cleaning of all surfaces, glass, sanitaryware and floors.
- Sticker and residue removal from fittings and glazing.
Where it sits in the sequence
Near the very end. After the fittings are in and before the final delicate finishes — wallpaper and curtains — and the client handover.
What a PM watches for
- Clean, then snag. A clean surface reveals snags that dust was hiding. Do the final snag walk after the clean.
- Protect what follows. Don't lay wallpaper or hang curtains onto surfaces that still need a messy touch-up; sequence the clean so it's genuinely last among the messy work.
- Handover standard. The clean is what the client sees first. Hold it to the standard you'd want to walk into.
