Stone / Solid Surface
Worktops and vanity tops — templated to the installed carpentry carcasses, fabricated off-site, installed late.
Stone / Solid Surface covers the hard worktops: kitchen and vanity tops in natural stone, engineered quartz or solid surface. These are templated to the real installed carcass, fabricated off-site, then installed as a late, precise item.
What it covers
- Kitchen worktops, islands and splashbacks.
- Vanity and counter tops.
- Cut-outs for sinks, hobs and taps.
Where it sits in the sequence
After carpentry carcasses are installed — the top is templated to the actual cabinetry, not the drawing. It precedes the second-fix plumbing and fittings that connect into its cut-outs.
What a PM watches for
- Template the installed carcass. Templating off drawings instead of the built carcass is the classic cause of a top that doesn't fit. Wait for the carcass.
- Cut-out coordination. Sink, hob and tap cut-outs must match the chosen appliances and plumbing — confirm models before fabrication.
- Handling. Stone tops are heavy and crack on a bad lift. Plan access and manpower for the install.
