Wallpaper

A delicate, near-final finish applied to clean, dry, fully prepared walls once the dusty work is over.

Wallpaper is a delicate decorative finish that goes on very late. It demands a clean, dry, properly prepared wall and a dust-free environment, which is exactly why it follows almost everything else.

What it covers

  • Surface preparation and lining where required.
  • Hanging of wallpaper and feature-wall coverings.
  • Trimming, matching and finishing at edges and corners.

Where it sits in the sequence

One of the last trades. After painting (which prepares and finishes the surrounding walls) and after the general clean, typically alongside or just before curtains.

What a PM watches for

  • Wall preparation and moisture. Wallpaper lifts and bubbles on a poorly prepared or damp wall. Confirm the substrate is sound and dry before hanging.
  • Pattern match and direction. Confirm the pattern, batch and orientation in writing — a mismatched or reverse-hung run is a full redo.
  • Protect it after. Once hung, keep trades and trolleys away. It marks and tears easily right up to handover.
